yes, and its also the only way out for Maria, a woman who has self
awareness, feelings and consiousness, like any other human being, a fact
that most people overlook totally, completely..! Even though the game
provides you with “born from a wish” , JUST IN CASE you didnt realise
that Maria is not just a test subject for James to pass and then proceed
and drown himself in the lake….!!

I see “Maria” ending as sort of second chance for James. The credit song “Promise” adamants me in this. The title “Promise” – maybe promise to Maria he will not kill her like he did Mary and promise he will stay to the bitter end. Because only thing that is certain about Maria – she is going to die. Either James kills her in other endings, or the sickness will take her in her own ending.

All we know is that his father in SH4 hints that he never made it back from SH or atleast not seen his son since. Ethier he left and went to another place with new daughter as mentioned in the article. Ethier commited suicide or live in dream like SH with Maria(or left) or he still there trying to resurrect his wife ala Pet semetary in the ritual ending.
