Resident Evil CODE: Veronica

Biohazard, localized as Resident Evil for overseas release, has endured throughout the years against changes in the games industry and continues to receive new content. The landmark survival horror series that defined the genre for a generation of fans eventually shifted gears towards a more action-based gameplay style to market itself to American and European audiences. Before that paradigm shift, however, an early series entry accomplished a successful blend of survival horror and action without compromising the gameplay themes that began with the mansion incident in the original Resident Evil (1996). Titled Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, the game kept important story elements and characters while introducing new ones, and brought stylishly high-stakes, over-the-top Hollywood action to consoles.

As Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary continues, it’s with fans new and old in mind that we take a look back at the legacy and influence of the fourth main entry in the series.

CODE: Veronica was released just as the old millennium became the new on February 3, 2000, for the Sega Dreamcast. It’s considered by multiple critics to be one of the greatest Dreamcast entries during the console’s limited run, selling 1.14 million copies worldwide but selling about 450,000 copies in the U.S., its target audience.

A desire to extend the game’s lifespan beyond the Dreamcast led Japanese developer Capcom to release it again a year later. Titled Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X and released for the PS2 in 2001, this enhanced version of the game included additional cutscenes and story elements not found in the Dreamcast version. Including Code Veronica: X, overall sales of the game would total 2.54 million units.

Voice-over talent led by voice director Erik Suzuki helped bring life and personality to the game’s many characters. The cast is led by Leila Johnson as a new villain, Alexia Ashford, and Richard Waugh as Albert Wesker. The protagonists include Michael Filipowich as Chris Redfield along with Alyson Court, reprising her role as Chris’s sister Claire from 1998’s Resident Evil 2. Rounding out the rest of the cast is Peter Oldring as Alexia’s twin brother, Alfred Ashford, Bill Houston as Steve Burnside, and Martin Roach as Rodrigo Raval.

CODE: Veronica’s story is set in December 1998, in the aftermath of Raccoon City’s destruction. The game begins on Rockfort Island, an isolated location in the South Pacific that houses an Umbrella Corporation-funded facility. Former S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team captain Albert Wesker has mysteriously returned from the dead and is now in command of a paramilitary group called the H.C.F. (Hive/Host Capture Force). He believes the body of Alexia Ashford, a former child prodigy of Umbrella rumored to have created the powerful t-Veronica virus, is being kept on the island. Following hot on Wesker’s heels is Chris Redfield, fueled by a powerful grudge against his former leader for Wesker’s betrayal of the S.T.A.R.S. members.

Chris returns for the first time since the events of the original Resident Evil. During repeated encounters with Wesker, He makes a number of choices, includes lunging at the superpowered villain with a metal pipe before being tossed aside like a rag-doll, a moment that’s an apt metaphor for the ongoing struggle between their two diametrically opposed personalities. Thanks to the YouTube channel Resident Evil Database, you can watch one of Chris’s memorable battles with Wesker yourself.

After the events of Resident Evil 2, Claire Redfield’s search for her brother leads her to infiltrate an Umbrella facility in Paris, where she’s subsequently captured by an Umbrella paramilitary soldier named Rodrigo Raval and transported to Rockfort Island. Claire is then imprisoned on Rockfort Island and later released when Rodrigo has a change of heart as a result of Wesker’s H.C.F. attack, which has led to an outbreak of the t-Virus on the island. In a twist of fate, Claire encounters Wesker long before she can reunite with Chris. Her first encounter with her brother’s nemesis (and ongoing series antagonist) is another fan-favorite moment of the game.

Steve Burnside, another new character who serves as a foil to Claire, is introduced as a Rockfort prison inmate with a heavy past. Wielding two gold lugers (which are also keys to the Ashford residence), he assists Claire throughout her journey as they try to escape the island’s horrors together. Claire’s subsequent encounters with the disturbingly theatrical commander of the Rockfort base, Alfred Ashford and his twin sister Alexia, and Claire’s eventual reunion with Chris is a story within a story; two pairs of siblings on opposing sides of morality.

Nearing the climax of the game, Rockfort Island is revealed to be a front to conceal the true location of Alexia Ashford, who’s eventually found in the Antarctic and surprisingly, alive. There, Wesker enters the Antarctic Hall of the facility (with its gothic European architecture) and is met with the sight of the newly risen Alexia, whose t-Veronica virus was his goal. The stand-off between Wesker and Alexia on the staircase landing is the most memorable scene from CODE: Veronica according to numerous fans over the years.

Alexia’s cackle as she mutates into her monstrous form lets players know she’s not to be trifled with. Duking it out with Wesker in classic Resident Evil fashion (as shown in the famous cutscene below), the scene involves Wesker being set aflame, maniacal laughter from both sides, and an astonished Chris as he looks on. Below are both versions of the scene for comparison.

Due to an outdated control scheme and console inaccessibility for newer generations, combined with fan debate on whether the game should be properly remade, CODE: Veronica remains a popular topic among the Resident Evil fan community. Capcom’s decision to skip CODE: Veronica and go straight for a remake of Resident Evil 4 has left fans wanting. So much so that some have taken it upon themselves to do what Capcom won’t, in the form of a fan-developed remake.

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica’s blend of the survival horror and action genres, obtuse, yet beloved puzzles, and the introduction of new lore and canon, makes this entry worthy of the series’ grandiose, operatic legacy. A fitting way to wrap things up would be with Alexia’s recurring theme throughout the game, best heard in Alexia Type 2, from CODE: Veronica’s original soundtrack; the result of a collaboration between Japanese composers Takeshi Miura, Hijiri Anze, and Sanae Kasahara.

With time, maybe Capcom will listen to passionate fans and provide us with an official remake of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica. Until then, the original release will remain beloved in the hearts of Resident Evil and horror fans alike.

CLAIRE REDFIELD

Claire Redfield

A couple of months after escaping the Raccoon City outbreak, Claire headed to the Paris Research Facility in an attempt to find her lost brother Chris. Almost escaping, she was captured by Rodrigo Juan Raval, held at gunpoint with no bullets left. She was knocked unconscious and transported to the Rockfort Island prison and Training Facility, an isolated island controlled by Umbrella and ran by Alfred Ashford. Due to an unknown attacker, a viral outbreak has occurred on Rockfort Island so she must once again fight to survive, in a search for Chris Redfield.

Height: 169cm | Weight: 52.4kg | Blood Type: A | Age: 19
STEVE BURNSIDE

Steve Burnside

Steve Burnside was taken prisoner by Umbrella along with his father, as his father had intended to sell information he had stolen while working for the company. Steve’s mother was also killed during their arrest, which we see in game to have caused him great distress. Steve met up with Claire early on in the Rockfort Island escape, and they both worked together to escape the Island. Eventually, a romance occurs between Steve and Claire, although he meets a rather sticky end at the hands of Alexia Ashford.

Height: 173cm | Weight: 67,5kg | Blood Type: B | Age: 17
CHRIS REDFIELD

Chris Redfield

Chris, after leaving Raccoon City in an attempt to take down Umbrella, Leon had passed on a message to Chris from Claire with the co-ordinates of the Rockfort Island facility. As a surviving member of S.T.A.R.S, he feels responsible for taking down Umbrella, however he rediverts his course to Rockfort Island to save his sister due to his protective behaviour over his little sister.

Height: 181cm | Weight: 80,5kg | Blood Type: 0 | Age: 25
RODRIGO JUAN RAVAL

Rodrigo Juan Raval

Rodrigo is an employee for Umbrella, hired at the Paris Research Facility and responsible for the imprisoning of Claire Redfield and escorting her to the Rockfort Island facility. Rodrigo is injured during the outbreak on Rockfort, and allows Claire to leave due to the dire situation. He runs out of hemostatic medicine which is needed to stop his injury bleeding and keep him alive, which if you provide, he is kind enough to give you a lockpick. He also meets ChrisRedfield later on in the game, until he is swallowed whole by a giant gulp worm. You get to choose his fate.

Height: 178cm | Weight: 75kg | Blood Type: A | Age: 38
ALFRED ASHFORD

Alfred Ashford

Alfred Ashford is the leader of the Military Training facility on Rockfort Island. He is the grandson of Edward Ashford, one of the three founders of Umbrella. He is very close to his twin sister Alexia, and has become mentally ill during her cryostasis, telling the employees on the Rockfort/Antarctic Facility that she died many years ago. In her abscence, he has developed a multiple personality disorder, with which he dresses up as his sister and speaks like her, taking on her personality and emulating a conversation between the two as if she were there. He has a great love for the military, having a model tank in the facility and a false tank which he uses to cover up a secret passage to an aircraft. His main priority is the protection of his sister while in cryogenesis, and although making him insane, he lived for and died for his duty to his sister. He has also stated he lives to serve his sister, and his ideal world is Alexia ruling the world with him as her servant.

Height: 176cm | Weight: 61,8kg | Blood Type: AB | Age: 27
ALEXIA ASHFORD

Alexia Ashford

Alexia Ashford is the twin sister of Alfred Ashford, and the primary antagonist of the game. She was born in 1971, along with her twin brother Alfred. She and Alfred were born as the result of an experiment by their father, Alexander. This experiment was called the “Code: Veronica” project, thus the title of the game, designed to reincarnate the matriarch of the Ashford family, Veronica Ashford. This was done by putting the DNA of Veronica into an egg, placed into a surrogate mother, and fertilized by Alexander. After studying ants, she found their lifestyle to be ideal, and began work on the “T-Veronica virus”. Following a failed experiment on Alexander, she decides that it’s required to remain in cryogenic suspension for 15 years to fully assimilate the virus and be able to utilize it’s power correctly; that was 15 years ago.

Height: 175cm | Weight: 53,4kg | Blood Type: AB | Age: 27
ALBERT WESKER

Albert Wesker

Wesker is now a member of a new company, HCF, after being disbanded from Umbrella for being a rogue agent. He attacks the Rockfort Island facility in a hope to secure a sample of the T-Veronica virus. He meets Chris on his mission, and gets to exact the revenge he desired. He’s gained inhuman power by now due to the Wesker Virus created by Birkin, Although he is responsible for the attack on Rockfort Island, he appears to be amused by the fact that Alfred blames Claire for the incident. His new powers aid him in the battle with Alexia later on, although he is ultimately overpowered. He manages to secure a T-Alexia sample from the newly infected Steve, and manages to escape in a submarine.

ZOMBIE

Zombie

Infection with T-Virus in a human host results with this. It has a severe necrotic effect on the host due to their metabolism, and they need to feed on fresh meat in order to survive. They have no intelligent behaviour and are driven only by their urges, and so they are easy to either kill or avoid. In this primative stage of transformation, they are also very slow.

Origin: Human | Attack: Very Slow | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 1/5
CERBERUS

Cerberus

This is the result of infusing the T-Virus with a dog. They can attack either singularly or in packs, and the best way to defeat them is by using a shotgun. Not too much trouble to kill, but dangerous if you have low health.

Origin: Dog | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 2/5
BAT

Bat

Bat’s are chilling on roofs and as long as you don’t run arround like hell they won’t attack you. Bats also hate light, so just equip your lighter and don’t run arround.

Origin: Bat | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 1/5
GULP WORM

Gulp Worm

An enormous big worm digging arround below the training facility. You can completely avoid a fight if you just do your business and quickly go through the next door.

Origin: Worm | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 3/5
BANDERSNATCHER

Bandersnatcher

Bandersnatchers were originally intended to be Tyrants, however something went wrong along the way and ended up as these. They only have one arm, which they can use to transport themselves across very long distances, or to attack. Also, if your health is caution or below, they can use this arm to crush your head in a final attack, so beware. The best course of action is try to shoot them with the explosive arrows on the bowgun, and if trying to avoid them, run around the side of them, the side without an arm, and quickly.

Origin: Human | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 3/5
HUNTER

Hunter

Hunter’s are based on frog-DNA. The version that hunts you in Code Veronica is by far the most dangerous one and definitely an enemy to be feared of. Especially if they are poisonous. But you shouldn’t look if they are or not, just take out a fat gun and blow them into viral heaven.

Origin: Frog | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 3/5
GIANT SPIDER

Giant Spider

The big spiders in C:V are more advanced than in previous games. You especially should take major care of their poisonous attack.

Origin: Spider | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 3/5
MOTH

Moth

Way more dangerous than they look. Try to not waste your ammo on them, but don’t let them attack you. Moth’s are able to put their fuckin eggs somewhere on you without you noticing it. Always take a blue herb with you in Antarctica.

Origin: Moth | Attack: Normal | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 1/5
TYRANT

Tyrant

This Tyrant is a T-078 model, a variant of the T-103 model deployed without its limiter. Given to the Rockfort Facility by Umbrella for added protection, Alfred released this Tyrant to pursue Claire once she tries to escape. You encounter this Tyrant twice, once on the way to the Airport, and once inside the plane where he is significantly more difficult. The fact he pursues Claire shows this Tyrant can be programmed to follow orders, however it is unknown if this model is sentient or not. He utilizes maces as hands, with which he can elongate a claw and make him a deadly opponent. It is always best to save a fair bit of health and grenades and heavy weaponry for the plane battle, as it is one of the most difficult fights in the game. This Tyrant is finally defeated when knocked out of the plane by cargo.

Origin: Human | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 4/5
ALBINOID

Albinoid

Tons of albinoids break out of a tank in the training facility. They are very small, so don’t worry and just run away. Later in the game you will meet one bigger version of them. He is swimming arround in water. You don’t need to kill him, because you only have to get an item out of the water somehow.

Origin: Salamander | Attack: Quick | Infection: T-Virus | Danger Level: 3/5
NOSFERATU (ALEXANDER ASHFORD)

Alexander Ashford

This is a result of Alexia injecting the T-Veronica sample into her father Alexander, in an experiment to see the effects of T-Veronica in a human host. The effects were poor, and resulted in Alexander losing all sentient behaviour, severe necrosis, large appendages from his back and he emitted a strong poison to which the only cure is the serum created by Alexia. He is the first known host of T-Veronica. The most effective way of defeating him is shooting him in the heart with Alfred’s sniper. If you hit him directly in the heart with the sniper rifle with the 7 bullets, that is all the ammunition you’ll need. Another method is avoiding his tentacles and knifing him in the heart.

Origin: Human | Attack: Normal | Infection: T-Veronica | Danger Level: 4/5
ALEXIA ASHFORD

T-Veronica Subject

This is the mutant form of Alexia Ashford, awoken from her 15 year cryogenic sleep and co-existing with the T-Veronica virus. Although she still keeps all sentient behaviour and attacks tactically rather than aggressively, making her a formidable opponent. You fight her in 3 forms. In her first form, she remains humanoid and attacks mainly with blood which is flammable when oxygenated.
In her second form, she has mutated, closely resembling a Queen Ant, and has sprouted wings resembling a dragonfly in place of her arms. She produces young which can attackattack you with tentacles at either side of her body. In her third form, she has detached herself from her large bottom appendage due to damage, and now closely resembles a dragonfly. She also vomits in this form, which in turn ignites and can harm the player if not avoided.
you with appendages from their back. Alexia can also

Combat Knife
Now, in this game, the Combat Knife has take n a much deadlier form. You are now able to incapacitate enemies faster. Use on Zombies, and Cerberus’ -only in extreme cases
DETAILED INFORMATION A Special Forces Combat Knife, such as this one, can be very dangerous in the hands of a trained professional. A little large, but deadly nonetheless. It is a must have in a survival situation. There are key features of this knife that are unlike any other. It is 16 inches over all, with a 1/4 of an inch Carbon re-enforced 420 Stainless steel blade, with heavy serrated edges. It has a watertight grip for those that must travel in the water. A very large, deadly, self-defense weapon. Caliber: None | Magazine Capacity: None
Beretta M93
Use mostly on less dangerous enemies. It is recommended that you use it on Bats, Zombies, and Cerberus’. You can use it on the Bandersnatch, but it is not recommended.
DETAILED INFORMATION
It was developed by Beretta Italy. First appearing in the late 70’s for police and military agencies that may require an additional punch up from the standard sidearm. Beretta no long has this weapon listed, but it is still used by some military units and police. It is based on the M92 design, but has additional features of its own. It has a fold down had grip just forward of the trigger group, low profile Military sights, a vented barrel, and of course a 3 round burst mode as well as a single shot mode. You can acquire a folding stock for this pistol to help reduce the recoil in 3 round burst. It packs quite a punch for a small handgun.
Caliber: 9x19mm Parabellum/ Luger | Magazine Capacity: 20+1 round -s-
Calico Model 100 – Pistol
Ammunition is very scarce, if not none. On the other hand, it handles very well, and is good against most foes -if you have the ammo-
DETAILED INFORMATION
Developed by Calico Arms Co. for both civilian and military use. It is a rather complex weapon, which didn’t see much sales, as a firearms ban in the mid 90’s almost single handedly put this out for business. It uses a blowback design -like most Sub Machine Guns-, and features a 50 to 100 round rotary magazine. It does not feature a forward handgrip, or front sight, which makes it a very unusual weapon.
Caliber: 22. LR -5.6mm| Magazine Capacity: 50-100 round -s-
Bow Gun (Manufacture Unknown)
Good for all enemies except major bosses. Ammunition can be found regularly is it is recommended that you always carry this weapon.
DETAILED INFORMATION
This type of Crossbow has dated back to early medieval times. It has been updated to fit the needs of hunters, as well as archery marksman. Unfortunately, not much information can be found on a crossbow like this. It can fire crossbow bolt that have explosive charges on the tip. This, might I add, ups the lethality of this weapon by a 10 fold.
Caliber: Crossbow Bolts | Magazine Capacity: 1 bolt -s-
M79 Grenade Launcher
Primarily usage on large groups of zombies, Cerberus, Bandersnatches and Sweepers
DETAILED INFORMATION
Used extensively during the Vietnam conflict, but after the war, it was phased out and replaced by the M203 40mm Grenade launcher. Remaining M-79’s were then sent to foreign military organizations as well as Homeland Law Enforcement for riot control purposes. This is a single shot, crack open, breech firing grenade weapon. It features a cut stock. If used in the right situation, this could become a very lethal and versatile weapon.
Caliber: 40mm HE Grenade, Acid, and Napalm | Magazine Capacity: 1 round -s-
Dual-Ingram / Military Armament Corp. MAC-11
Considering that the Rate of fire is good, equip and use on large groups of Zombies, Cerberus’, single Lickers, it is recommended that you do not use on any other enemy as it becomes rather useless against more powerful enemies.
DETAILED INFORMATION
One of the most notable SMG’s of all time. Developed by Gorgon Ingram, it soon became a must for Military Special Forces as well as Police Units in the US as well as other countries. It features a number of different manufactures that make this same weapon. It is a recoil operated, open bolt, select fire sub-machine gun. It has a cocking handle on the top of the weapon that load ammunition in to the bolt. It has an extreme rate of fire, reaching upwards of 1400 Rounds per minute. Despite the small round, the amount of damage it can do is breathtaking to say the least.
Caliber: DOT .380ACP | Magazine Capacity: 32 round -s-
Glock Model 17
For the regular version of this handgun, it is recommended that you use it on Zombies, Cerberus’, and Bandersnatch. With the modified version, you can use it up to the Sweeper.
DETAILED INFORMATION
Developed by Glock of Austria, this handgun became one of the most popular polymer frame pistols ever produced. It was made in the early 1980’s for police. Soon afterward, it was sought after by both civilian and military alike. It is a very well produced firearms, capable of firing in all environments. It has a polymer frame and steel slide. It has dovetail sights with night time inserts for night shooting. It can be factory modified, or custom modified with a ported barrel. This gives the Glock that extra “wham”. A true must for any type of combat scenario.
Caliber: 9×19 Parabellum | Magazine Capacity: 15+1 round -s-
Franchi SPAS -12 (Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun)
Use on all, low to moderate enemies. Ammunition is scarce so use it wisely.
DETAILED INFORMATION
Designed in the late 70’s for police and military applications. It is complex and fairly heavy. This means that due to its design, it is fairly expensive. Other than the overall design, it is a awesome shotgun with more than enough knockdown power.
The weapon itself is very unique. It features a switch that will trigger either a Pump-Action mode or a Automatic mode, depending on the operators choice. It features rifle sights, and can be outfitted with a muzzle break or a flash hider. You can also outfit it with a shorter barrel -LE and Military only-. And there is also a option for a foldable stock atop the receiver, or a solid stock.
Caliber: 12 Gauge | Magazine Capacity: 8+1 shell -s-
Mikhail Kalashnikov AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikov- 47)
It is a good all around weapon, but once again, ammunition is scarce so use it wisely.
DETAILED INFORMATION
This rifle is a direct descendant of the Nazi STG-44 (MP-44). Developed by Mikhail Kalashnikov for a reliable assault weapon for the Soviet Union. It was soon picked up by many Police, Military, and Terrorist Organizations alike. It is a very reliable weapon, and can even fire with a rusted shut bolt.
Designed in 1947, a basic, gas operated weapon. It is a very simple design. The trigger/ receiver group is based loosely on early Browning designs. It has battle/ combat sights, and a additional sighting system that is graduated up to 800 meters.
Caliber: 7.62x39mm Soviet | Magazine Capacity: 30 round -s-
Marlin Firearms MR7 30-06 calibur rifle
Use on Alexander Ashford -Also Known as Nosferato-
DETAILED INFORMATION
The Marlin MR7 comes in two different calibers: A 30-06 caliber version and a 270 caliber version. The version featured in RE:CVX is the Marlin MR7 30-06 caliber version. Aside from being not to well known the MR7 was manufactured in very limited numbers, not because of a lack of quality, its a very fine rifle. The MR7 (30-06 version) Fires, obviously a 30-06 calibur cartridge, has a 24 inch barrel and is bolt-action operated.
Caliber: 300. Savage | Magazine Capacity: 5 round -s-
Colt Python
Use this primarily on the Alexia-Type Creature, but you could use it on any other boss-type creature such as the Hunter. Remember though, ammunition for this handgun is scarce, if non-existent.
DETAILED INFORMATION
Developed and Introduced by the world known Colt Mfg. Company in the mid 50’s. It comes in a variety of styles. Stainless is most preferred as it is cheaper to the operator. Compared to other evolvers type magnums, this handgun is top of its class. Pythons are double action revolvers, which must be manual reloaded through the swing open cylinder which hold 6 rounds. Sights are full adjustable and removable for the operators convenience. This revolver also features numerous barrel configurations for certain types of situations.
Caliber: .357 | Magazine Capacity: 6 round -s-
Umbrella Corp. Biohazardous Containment Linear Launcher
Usage on Alexia-Creature.
DETAILED INFORMATION
Designed by Umbrella Corp. for Biohazard Containment. It is very powerful, more than capable of destroying anything. It has Hi-Impact, heat Treated Hydrogen plasma which is very deadly, and highly volatile. It is basically a “one-shot-one-kill-deal”.
Caliber: Heat Treated, Hydrogen Plasma | Magazine Capacity: Unlimited

After RE3: Nemesis being the last game on PlayStation, Capcom had to find a next generation console to continue their popular franchise. They found it in the Sega Dreamcast. It was said that Code: Veronica will be a side chapter of the series and only be released on Sega Dreamcast.

Every true RE fan bought a Dreamcast only to play the upcoming RE game with finally NO pre-rendered backgrounds anymore.

About 6 or 7 months after RE C:V being released on Dreamcast, Capcom announced the production of a “complete” version of the game for the PlayStation 2. They added three new Wesker cut-scenes, and some minor adjustments to the game. The end sequence was really superior, most likely the best in any RE game yet. Fans were disappointed by Capcom. This only either to make money from a good game, or tweak some faults in the original. A GameCube release was announced later, near the release of the RE2 and RE3 ports. However, the port to the two alternative consoles made the game far more accessible to RE fans, and there are even slight differences between the GameCube and Playstation 2 port, for example codes, or the aftermath of the battle with Nosferatu.

Release Dates of CV Original: Japan: January 2000 || US: March 29th 2000 || PAL: June 2000

CHECK ALL ITEMS

When you obtain a new item, always remember to look at it with the “Check” command on the status screen. Remember, it’s always best to rotate the item so you can check it from different angles.

TRY TO PUSH OBJECTS

If you face an object and press and hold up on the directional button, sometimes you will be able to push it. You may find hidden rooms and items this way.

USE THE QUICK TURN

You can turn 180 degrees instantly by pressing the Cancel button while holding the directional button down. This is a very effective move when you attack an enemy and then want to turn around and run.

USE THE MAP SCREEN

When you are lost or are unsure of what to do, check the map screen. You can easily tell where you’ve been and can see which doors you have unlocked.

CLIMB/DESCEND

You can climb/descend some objects. To do this, face the object and then push the Action button.

SECURITY BOXES

The items you store in a Security Box in the prison cannot be accessed through an Item Box. Make sure you remove all important items from a Security Box before exiting a room.

I CAN’T TAKE THE GOLD LUGERS FROM THE PROJECTION ROOM

You cannot release the trap by yourself. After certain events occur, you will be able to release the trap and obtain the Gold Lugers.

I CAN’T ENTER THE BIO-EXPERIMENT ROOM

Once the shutter near the bio-experiment room shuts, you can’t open it until the ventilation process completes due to the in-room air pollution problems.

I CAN’T CLIMB THE LADDER IN THE BEDROOM

You will need to place a pair of items onto the two music boxes. Then you will have to…

I CAN’T SEND LOADS PROPERLY WITH THE SORTER

The sorter judges which room each load will be sent to by an item that is posted on the load. You should check an already sorted load in the room you would like to send your load to and then…

CHARACTER SWITCHING

MEMO ON THE PASS NUMBER

The emergency lock system in the biology experiment room can be released with the four digit pass number. I hope you haven’t forgotten about it already.

I have just received an order from the system administrator requesting us to change the pass number periodically. What bothers me is that you often lose important memos, pass numbers, or even chemicals…

So, in an attempt to solve that problem, I came up with an idea. You know the red human skeleton picture at the back of the biology experiment room?

I have decided to use the number signed on the picture as the pass number. If you happen to lose the memo just use the picture.

Well, I don’t think you would ever need to use the emergency pass number anyway. But just in case, now you know. Take it easy Mr. Careless!

MESSAGE TO THE NEW FAMILY MASTER

Sir Alfred,

Congratulations on your succession as master as the Ashford family.

I hereby present you with an earthenware vase, according to the Ashford family tradition.

As you may know, this tradition first began when a butler presented a golden teacup as a commemorative to Veronica. As founder of the Asford family, her intelligence and beauty are legendary.

The second and third, masters, Stanly and his son Thomas were also presented with similar teacups. It was their hope to achieve glory as Veronica did before them.

The position as family master then shifted to Sir Thomas to his twin brother Sir Arthur. It then went to Sir Edward, your grandfather. That was when the Ashford family enjoyed it’s golden age.

It was also Sir Edwards achievement that established the large chemical enterprise, Umbrella Inc.

However, when Sir Edward passed away, and your father Sir Alexander succeeded the position, the glorious Ashford family gradually began to sink…

I sincerely hope that the Ashford family regains it’s glory with your guidance, just as this vase continues to shine eternally.

REPORT: ENHANCED ANTI-DECAY ALLOY

Although we planned to utilize the enhanced anti-decay alloy called “Deploid” to create the storage capsule of the new B.O.W., we have had to cancel the plan. This is primarily based upon the fact that despite it’s excellent resistance to all kinds of liquid including strong acid, it easily dissolves when soaked with a mixture of the two chemicals, “Clement a” and “Clement E”.

Due to the lethal nature of the new B.O.W., we cannot be too careful in choosing the material for their storage capsule.

We have instead decided to use Deploid to create the plate portion of the “Eagle Plate”, which shines in indigo-blue.

CLEMENT INFORMATION

The a type is used for gun maintenance and possesses no conspicuous characteristics. However, the E type will change it’s color to blue at a certain temperature.

(It is an odd coincidence that the temperature is exactly the same as the date of completion of this training facility.)

Based upon our analysis of the E type, we believe that Clement possesses more features. As new information is learned, we will update this file.

PRISONER’S DIARY

May 13th

This room stinks of death. Based upon the information I’ve found, I believe that I’m far south of the equator.

Lucky for me that Bob in the bunk below me, is one of those interesting types of guys…

May 16th

Today Bob told some crazy story of why he was put this place with me. Bob said that he used to be an attendant of the head of this place. This “boss” named Alfred supposedly placed him in here because of a tiny little mistake.

What does that mean? What’s going to happen to me?

May 20th

Without warning, a group of military men took Bob to the building behind the guillotine stand.

At midnight, I’ll sneak out of here to see him.

I’ve been hearing that anyone taken to that building never comes back. On top of that, there are these REALLY large plastic bags being constantly being removed from that place. I’d better pray for Bob…

May 21st

I was wrong. I shouldn’t have gone there. What is going on it there?! All I could here was some insanely creepy laughter and the sound of Bob screaming. I don’t know what to do. I can’t stop thinking about it…

Is that going to happen to me?! I can’t let it… I just can’t…

May 27th

Since my last entry, all of my fellow inmates have been taken to that building! I know that I am next…It’s obvious that we are all here to be used as Alfred’s guinea pigs. There’s no way out! What am I going to do?!…

——————————————————————————–

ANATOMIST’S NOTE

There is a demon in my mind. I can’t control the fierce impulses that the demon sometimes drives me to act upon. It is a brutal ceremony. With the demon next to me, I enjoy watching agonize in pain, screaming and convulsing repeatedly as they die…

But, Sir Alfred was kind enough to acknowledge me, and has given me the facilities, the chemicals, and the “equipment” necessary to study everything.

I must never betray Sir Alfred’s kindness. It is especially critical that no one discovers the sacred place that only he and I know about. I swear, the basement of this medical building will be kept secret.

Of course, I keep the key to the sacred place with me at all times. Even if an outsider sees it, they will never be able to tell that it is the key. I must remember that my life ends when I lose Sir Alfred’s trust.

——————————————————————————–

SECRETARY’S NOTE

Four years have passed since I began serving Sir Alfred.

He doesn’t trust anyone! Even though I am his attendant, I am still strictly prohibited from entering his private house! What is his problem anyway?!

They say he lives with his twin sister, Alexia in his private house on the hill.

Occasionally, I’ve seen someone standing by the window of the house. It might have been Alexia, whose extreme beauty is often talked about.

I once asked Sir Alfred about this, but it only enraged him. Even though I am his attendant. He will not show me any lenience. If I ask about her again, I could put my life at risk.

After all, it is a mystery why he so desperately tries to keep his private life with Alexia a secret.

HUNK’S REPORT

Attn: Mr. Alfred Ashford, head of the facility

Today at 16:32, I arrived successfully from the Umbrella transport base with the large-scale B.O.W. capsule.

Extreme care was taken during transport, and all 108 check points were confirmed condition “green” in accordance with standard procedures.

It is currently being stored in a freezer.

There’s one thing that I don’t understand. We are normally assigned to special missions. Why were we ordered to transport a frozen capsule this time?

I understand that this may be classified as top-secret, but without knowledge of the contents, our safety could be at risk during this transport. This is especially important if the contents are potentially harmful.

We would like to ask you provide us with more information, should we be assigned similar missions in the future?

I still remember the good old days in the military training center. Nothing has changed since then.

We will gear up for the next mission today at 23:00.

WORKER’S DIARY

October 30th

When I joined Umbrella Inc., I thought that I would be able to live care-free for the rest of my life, being employed by this huge corporation.

It’s a joke that I ended up being a driver at a place like this. I asked for a position change, but they completely ignored me. It feels more like a prison! Work is extremely demanding, and there’s nothing fun about it. I’d rather be dead!

November 3rd

My hard-earned vacation was canceled suddenly. I heard they failed to secure enough manpower due to a mistake made by the facility head, Alfred. That fool doesn’t deserved forgiveness. He doesn’t even treat us like human beings!

November 5th

I heard an interesting story from a guy who’s been working here for 8 years. He must be awfully patient…

He says that there is a man who has been confined for over 10 years, locked deep below here. People call him “Nosferatu” and are deathly afraid of him. What an absurd story!

November 10th

At midnight I woke up to an ominous growling sound that seemed to be coming from deep under ground…I’m so pathetic to have been frightened by such a foolish story.

Then again, I suppose anyone would have a hard time maintaining their sanity if they were confined in a place like this!

ALEXANDER’S MEMO

My father, Edward, discovered the mother virus in cooperation with Lord Spencer, who was also a nobleman. They studied it for the purpose of military use.

Eventually their study took shape. They named a variation of the mother virus, the “T-virus”.

To camouflage their research, they established Umbrella Chemical, Inc.

I majored in biogenetics and have been involved with a top secret project, supporting my father’s research.

However, my research went through a difficult phase, and my father died in the middle of the project.

We are now at a major disadvantage against the other researchers, as there is great competition in the field of T-virus research. I have disgraced the honorable name of the Ashford family that out great ancestor Veronica established.

If nothing is done, Umbrella will be taken over by Spencer. I must expedite the project to its fullest, without being detected by Spencer.

After much thought, I decided to establish a large-scale advanced research facility. It will be located in the transport terminal that I created by using the abandoned mine in the Antarctic.

Within the facility, I’ll have a room built. It will be similar to the design of my mansion, the legacy of the late Trevor.

I will be able to cherish my sweet memories there…

For security purposes, this confidential project will be given a codename. It is the same name if the beautiful ancestor of the Ashford family, “Veronica” whom I wish to receive so badly.

I am confident that the result of my research will be as glorious as her name, and that honor will be restored to the Ashford family again.

BUTLER’S LETTER

Sir Alfred,

Please forgive me, as I must tell you of my abrupt departure by leaving this letter.

I first served your father, Lord Alexander, and have for so long shared in the joys and sorrows of the Ashford family. Lord Alexander disappeared unexpectedly 15 years ago, then an accident during an experiment took the life of our dear Alexia.

You were forced to become the master of the family at a very young age, and nearly lost your sanity from the sorrow of having lost all of your family members at once.

There was nothing I could do, and I felt powerless.

I first though that I should kill myself to apologize. I then realized that it would be an insult to our dear Lord Alexander and Alexia, in the other world…

Scott Harman

Butler, Ashford family

——————————————————————————–

CONFESSION LETTER

Alexia, my sister, is a genius and possesses unmatched beauty. She is everything to me. I would overcome any obstacle and be willing to risk my life for her. For Alexia, I must revive the glorious Ashford family which fell during the era of my father, Alexander.

Together, we will restore our family name. Once that has been achieved, I’ll build a palace where only nobles may gather. I cannot allow the unwashed to see my dear Alexia, to whom my life is devoted to. She reigns the world as queen, with I as her servant.

That is my dream, and how sweet it will be. Those accomplishments will be proof of my love toward Alexia. It is the purpose of my existence.

All other people are meaningless, and they shall prostrate themselves before Alexia and I.

Devoted to my beloved Alexia,

Alfred Ashford

——————————————————————————–

SECRET PASSAGE NOTE

The underground passage which leads to the mansion where Alexia and I live, has been badly damaged. Although I can never allow the unwashed to see Alexia, I cannot go on using the underground waterway that those local people made, either.

Oh yes…I think I’ll have those prisoners build a bridge. It must be a gorgeous bridge that benefits the perfection that is Alexia.

Of course, I must kill everyone who’s involved in the construction of the bridge after it is done, so that no one will know about the existence of our mansion. But that is okay, as I have no problems executing such matters.

Once the bridge is completed, I’ll seal the mansion entrance door at the end of the underground waterway. The entrance of the waterway is locked by the diorama trick, ensuring the secrecy of our mansion.

CODE: VERONICA REPORT

After many long years of research, I finally identified the inheritance element that administers the intelligence of man.

I even succeeded in manipulating the absolute value of intelligence artificially, by recomposing the base alignment of the element.

I then sampled the gene of out great ancestor, manipulated its element, then implanted it into the unfertilized egg of a surrogate mother.

What I didn’t expect was that twins, a boy and a girl, were born. The boy had higher intelligence than normal, but not high enough for him to be considered a genius.

However, the girl had unmatched intelligence that easily allowed her to be classified as a genius. She was exactly what I had been looking for, the revival of out great ancestor.

I already determined their names: the girl’s name, Alexia, and the boy’s name, Alfred.

I’m certain that Alexia will elevate the name of the Ashford family to extreme glory.

Alexander Ashford

——————————————————————————–

ALFRED’S DIARY

January 30th

There’s a sealed room in the hallway located inside of the Antarctic facility. I don’t know what is hidden there, but I do not know how to get in.

I can use the three jewels that each one of our three members wear as proof of being legitimate descendant of the Ashford family. The only problem is, I do not know how I can gain possession of my father’s proof.

February 17th

I finally succeeded in entering that sealed room. I never could have imagined that such an insane secret existed regarding the birth of both Alexia and myself…

I hate my father. That fool, Alexander…Now it is obvious that we were merely created in an attempt to cover my father’s blunder. I can never trust him again. I must regain the glory of the Ashford family with my sister.

I have nothing to be afraid of, as long as Alexia is with me.

March 3rd

Alexia carried out the experiment on the human body that we’ve been talking about. Our useless father must be happy now, since he can finally contribute to the Ashford family.

The only thing we should be careful about is that the butler, Harman, does not become wise to our activities.

April 22nd

The experiment resulted in failure. Our father was useless after all. Even worse, he turned into a dangerous monster that is completely out of control.

We tied him down and locked him up in an underground prison cell. However, Alexia seems to be close to a solution. Beyond all my expectations, she now says that she wishes to conduct the experiment on her own body.

On top of that, she feels she must be kept asleep for 15 years in order to accomplish the experiment. Thanks to that idiot, I can’t see my dear Alexia for as long as 15 years.

Alexia is going to sleep, with all of her trust relying upon me. Now, I am the only one who can protect Alexia.

——————————————————————————–

QUEEN ANT REPORT

After discovering the remains of an ancient virus within the genes of a queen ant, I have been concentrating on the research of ants.

The ecosystem of the ants seems truly ideal to me. There is one queen ant in each anthill, and the soldier and worker ants are the queen’s slaves. They dedicate their lives to the queen.

The death of the queen ant means the doom of the entire anthill. However, the soldier and worker ants can be easily replaced as long as the queen ant is alive. This is exactly the same relationship between myself and other ignorant masses.

I have succeeded in creating an ideal virus by implanting the queen ant’s gene into the mother virus that Spencer found.

I used my otherwise useless father as a test subject. However, as I expected, the virus caused a rapid change in his cells, triggering the complete destruction of his brain cells and body flesh.

Furthermore, a special type of poison gas was generated inside his body, that the blue herb had no effect against. Because of this, I created an antidote in case of an emergency, and stored it inside of the weapon/chemical warehouse on the B2 floor.

I have decided to name this virus with unimaginable potential, the “T- Veronica” virus. When I find out how I can fully utilize the power of wonderful virus, my great research will finally be complete.

Alexia Ashford

——————————————————————————–

VIRUS RESEARCH REPORT

Work continues on the “T-Veronica” virus which I extracted from the queen ant. The more research I conduct on it, the more I am impressed by how much potential it has.

I have finally implanted the virus into my own body, and discovered how to fully utilize its power. I will avoid making the mistake that I made on my father. I will suppress the activity of the virus at an ultra-low temperature, so that my cells will change slowly.

My calculations indicate that it will take 15 years before my body will gain immunity, and become able to coexist with the virus.

Until then, I have no choice but to trust the capsule that I will be in, to that inept but loyal soldier ant who is my brother. For me to obtain unlimited power, some risks need to be taken.

When I awaken, I will be the queen… And the “T-Veronica” virus will be unleashed upon the entire world by my children. Every last creature on earth will exist to serve me.

At that time, the world will achieve the perfect ecosystem, just like an anthill, but on a much grander scale.

D.I.J.’s Diary

December 27th

Today, a woman in red was taken to my home on Rockfort Island. I wonder what she did to deserve such a fate? I’ve lived here for so long and have seen so many people taken to the prison, but rarely have I seen someone released alive…

Out of nowhere, these strange soldiers appeared with weapons in their hands. I suppose that the master of the island is being attacked by an opposing organization. Since I was worried about the woman in red, I ran to her prison but she was not there. I wonder if she is related to the attack on the island…

When I reached the military training facility, the master of Rockfort Island was chasing the woman in red. I got careless and was almost killed under a shutter. However, thanks to my natural agility, I managed to escape from the danger and went outside. I guess I should be thankful for my nature skills…

When I heard the self-destruct announcement and saw the emergency signal, I know that I had to get off the island. Was this all HER doing? I didn’t have time to think about it because I had to hurry to the hanger of the transportation plane to escape…

On my way to the transportation plane, a huge monster appeared in front of the woman in red. It broke through the fences like they were made of paper! Although I wanted to see what happened to the woman in red, I decided to run to my destination…

Even with all the explosions and fires, the transportation plane took off with us on it. I thought that I was safe. But somehow, that huge monster got onto our plane. With help from me, the woman in red was able to drive the monster out of our plane. She is indeed a woman to be respected…

I can’t believe it! Our transportation plane landed at an Antarctic transportation base. Worse yet, the crews who took off with another transportation plane before us, have scattered the T-Virus here. Now this base is just like the island, where zombies and monsters wander around…

I won’t be able to survive long in a place like this! I must find a way to escape from here as soon as possible!! I will give up on that woman in red and will start searching for another way…

As I was resting in the darkness, I sensed someone approaching. They’re right next to me! The door was closed and I couldn’t escape so I just kept banging on the door like a maniac. Suddenly the door opened, so I ran for it! But then I realized that I should not be afraid, so I looked back. I found myself looking at the woman in red…

Finally, I found a blond haired man in sun glasses. It seemed he was going to escape in a submarine. I felt that it was my last chance to escape from this crazy place of white terror. So just before the submarine hatch closed, I successfully sneaked into the submarine.

That is my story of how I survived from that insane world of horror.

Once you take control of Chris and the Gulp Worm eats him, attack the worm until it spits out Rodrigo, he will give you back the lighter.

Hint: Alternate Nosferatu’s Death Scene:

Once you reach the heliport and start the Nosferatu battle, take aim with your rifle and shot him in the heart until he dies, this will unlock a death scene.
Also, if you start stabbing him in the heart with the knife, an alternate death scene will show up.

Hint: Magnum for Wesker’s Battle Game

Once you reach the Casino Room in Battle game with Wesker, check the slot machine.
